Basic Info

A mature Blue Ring Angel may grow to between 10 and 12 inches (25 to 30 centimeters). Juveniles have very different coloring than adults, and are predominantly dark blue. Blue and white stripes can be seen covering their sides. Adults lose this dark coloration and acquire a brownish-orange base color. An intricate pattern of well-defined bright blue lines runs from behind the eye up to the tail end of this Angel. A blue ring shape may also be present behind the eyes.

Behavior

Blue Ring Angelfish may be difficult to keep, although, with their incredible color patterns, the achievement of maintaining such a fish in your aquarium can be very satisfying. However, this should only be attempted by experienced aquaculturalists. In the wild, Blue Ring Angelfish live in coastal waters, where they inhabit reefs. These fish graze on sponges, corals, and algae. Mature specimens are usually found in pairs. Blue Ring Angels are often found hiding in caves, and in captivity they should be allowed a sheltered hiding place. Plenty of open space for swimming should also be offered. Because they may be aggressive toward other fish, Blue Ring Angels may be best kept alone.
